- Our Story -
The Mere family are 5 generation Louisianans who's roots and heritage run deep with Cajun food. Our recipes, not only with the dishes we serve but in our homemade smoked meats that are staples to our many incredible Cajun dishes, are truly pure and authentic to the Cajun heritage. For decades, our family has made award winning smoked sausage, tasso along with a delicacy true to south Louisiana, Boudin! These recipes, as well as the art of preparing tasty meals and smoking flavorful meats, has been passed down for generations.
After hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast in 2008, myself, Jeff & my wife Jessica moved our family up to Loveland Colorado. We left behind the humidity, storms and of course mosquitos, for the incredible views and heavenly weather of Northern Colorado! But the one thing we didn't leave behind was the love for our Cajun culture of food and music. For the past several years we have been hosting an annual Crawfish Boil, accompanied with several other authentic Cajun dishes such as our Gumbo, Red Beans & Rice and Jambalaya; that combined with authentic live Cajun & Zydeco bands as I have played music in Louisiana since the age of 11. For years the annual event grew to where hundreds were packing our home and the message got louder each year from those attending; "You guys should start a Cajun Food business"!
So, that is what we did.
When our oldest son, Kaleb Mere returned from serving our country in the US Army in South Korea for 6-1/2 years, along with a new friend, fellow veteran and aspiring chef , Marvin Hearn, we began tossing around the idea of a food trailer. In August of 2020, myself, Jessica, Kaleb, Marvin and our new friend and Marvin's cousin Ian Lemasters, formed the Voodoo Cajun Kitchen Team and are excited to begin sharing our nearly century old Cajun heritage with the incredible people of Northern Colorado!
